About Malia
Hello! My name is Malia and I am currently completing my bachelors degree in Biology as a pre-medical student. I want to share my love of science with you! My favorite subjects include Microbiology, Organic Chemistry as well as Anatomy and Physiology. Over the course of my academic career, I have acquired the important skills of: writing exemplary laboratory reports and having effective study skills. In my experience, the most important pillar of learning of is communication. Three important questions I always ask myself are: Do I understand the concept? Do I understand the vocabulary the teacher is using? Can I explain this topic in my own words? In order to help you better understand something; my purpose is to make sure you understand what is being asked and how to show what you know back to the teacher. You "show what you know" in various forms, some examples are: multiple choice, extended reponse and formal lab reports. I am here for you and we will work through this process together!
When you are looking for help with a subject in school, make sure you are working with someone that works with your learning type (audio, kinestetic, visual, verbal). If you don't know what kind of learner you are, we can work together on finding what method works for you!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Above anything else, it is important that you communicate with your teacher/professor. When you are handed the course outline or syllabus make sure you talk to them if you have questions. They are the only one who know what will be on that test! I know technology has been our best frend as well as our worst enemy during this pandemic. After you have discussed any questions with the teacher, then reach out for help.
Important note: Do not be afraid to ask questions. Asking a question doesn't mean you are dumb, it means you are clarifying. It is better to clarify before the test rather than after. I say this from experince.
