About Jonathan
I see each lesson as another opportunity to help facilitate realization of one's own abilities, regardless of the magnitude, so that the student believes more and more in their own ability to get better. I adapts to the current needs of my student as they show themselves in each lesson individually, in order to still challenge them, but to also foster enjoyment and sense of accomplishment.
I derive fulfillment and sense of purpose witnessing my students experience their own learning, and by planting seeds for future realization within them. These two things to me are the reasons to teach.
Teaching has become an integral part of being a professional musician and performing artist. I first realized I liked teaching in college, when I would get together with friends to work on music related things. After some time, I noticed that I possessed a way of clearly and patiently explaining things, and observed my own satisfaction in seeing the other person understand and apply what I was talking about.
From there, over the years I started teaching private trumpet and piano lessons. I now have over 10 years of teaching experience, and have taught everyone from babies/toddlers to the elderly, and those whom have particular learning needs.
Having grown up and studied in New York City and/or the greater New York area for 2/3 of my life, I've benefited from receiving the highest caliber of education and musical training available. That includes 4 years at New York City's top performing arts high school, 9 years of conservatory training (which includes the earning of Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees), and additional experience within 5 different intensive programs (the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music, the School for Improvisational Music Summer Intensive Program, Vermont Jazz Center Summer Jazz Camp, and Queens College Summer Jazz Program).

I begin with assessing where an individual is in their abilities, both physically, as well as cognitively and emotionally in respect to their chosen medium. It is also helpful to discuss what it is they want to achieve, if at all, whether it be short or long term. From there, I determine what practices and material will be best suited for them, both in terms of immediate assignments, and ongoing projects.
Over the past 10 years I've have the opportunity to mentor, counsel, care-take and teach a wide variety of types of people:
- Children ages 5-12
-Teenagers ages 13-19
-Young Adults/Adults ages 20-90
-Low Income Familiy Children
-Special Needs Students
*All of the Above in both Group and Private Environments*
