About Stefanie

I love teaching children in creative/unique ways. It is beyond fun for myself and student(s)...and hopefully creates everlasting impressions! I wish to create joy in children's lives while educating.

I teach bassoon...individual bassoon students as well as sections of an ensemble. I also teach Church youth Sunday school (ages 4 to 7) and currently am a Girl Scout Troop leader to 13 gals...Daisies and One Brownie...Ages 6-9.

This is my biography with an orchestra I had the pleasure to accompany.

Stefanie Octave was introduced to the bassoon at the age of 10 and they have been comrades ever since. She has been a Puget Sound local over the last decade performing with the Tacoma Concert Band, Federal Way Symphony, Pacific Northwest Sinfonietta, Tacoma Opera and several other ensembles. Prior to relocating to the PNW, Stefanie was born and raised in the Washington D.C. Area; the foundation of her bassoon studies mentored by leading military musicians of our nation as well as members of The National Symphony. Her primary mentor from youth through college was David Brundage, retired Principal Bassoonist of the United States Army Band 'Pershings Own' in D.C. Stefanie studied Music, Communication and History at West Virginia University, graduating with honors and receiving numerous awards and accolades. While studying at WVU, Stefanie participated in the Internation Double Reed Society convention held in Morgantown WV (an international superbowl for the bassoon and oboe families). She is an avid educator, particularly reaching out to young musicians. She thoroughly enjoyed mentoring The Puget Sound Youth Wind Ensemble affiliated with Puget Sound University. When Stefanie is not one with her bassoon or enchanted with tedious bassoon reed making, she enjoys running, reading, classic movies, ice cream and most importantly having adventures with her daughters and husband. She is very excited for the opportunity to perform with the Grays Harbor Symphony!

Watching the children's excitement, imagination and love for the arts.

Playing/performing bassoon since age 10...over 25 years. Have been teaching since I was in high school....most of my experience is teaching middle school ages and younger. However, do have experience with high school students. I have judged Middle and High School musical competitions ....absolutely love teaching children...anything that I can. Music, Bible School, Girl Scouts...I often assist my friends children with Home School Curriculum.
