About Andy

As a science tutor, I focus on teaching younger students the excitement in learning about our natural world. I have worked in many different types of teaching environments (including virtually), and understand the challenges of learning in a remote setting. My goal as a tutor is to keep students engaged and interested in the sientific world, even through Zoom.

Studying environmental studies in college, I was able to start my teaching career through the world of outdoor education. From there I kep expanding and growin as a teacher for the next decade!

I've been a teacher for almost ten years, ranging from teaching in formal classrooms, public and private schools, outdoor education, community gardening programs, summer classes and camps, and more.

Through these experiences, I've learned how to really understand students and they're learning styles, and how to use resources to help them excel as much as possible in learning.

About the lesson

First, I'll take an appropriate amount of time to get to know who I'm working with. We will excell in this process exponentially better if we know each other a little, understanding who the other is!

From there, I'll help students focus on priorities of what they're trying to achieve and lean largely on how they theink they can accomplish their goals best. I am there to guide them in helpful ways, but I really try to motivate the students to make the decisions about what they want to be doing.

I've worked with (and am comfortable tutoring) all students. I have experience with students who are: struggling academically in their grade, overacheiving in their academics, mentally and/or physically handicapped, have Individual Education Plans, learning differences such as ADHD and ADD or dyslexia, low-income to extremely affluent students and families, etc.

Make sure you click with your teacher/tutor (which may or may not me me). If you don't have a personal connection, you won't do you best in this process, which is what's important!

Recently, I was able to go on a trip to a few National Parks and was able to keep broadening my knowledge about the natural world. I explored deserts, valleys, salt flats, forests, oceans, and mountains, and was in constant awe of our natural world.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What kind of tutor do I want? Do I want someone younger or older? Do I have a learning preferance with males or females? Do I want to work with someone who is more strict and focuses largely on finishing work, or would I prefer someone more relaxed who I can enjoy my time with and not stress about necessarily finishing my work, while still making progress?
