About David

In the last year, I've tutored 557 students in 1338 sessions over 1486 hours, earning an average of 4.89/5 stars.

My main topics are: Python (814 hours), SQL & Databases (370 hours), VBA (114 hours), and Linux (71 hours).

I'm patient and great at explaining things with simple examples.

I have more than 10 years experience as a Support Engineer with SQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server. I'm also very familiar with MySQL, Postgres, SQLite, and Access.

I have several years of experience with Python programming (sorry, no Data Science libraries such as Pandas, Matplotlib, etc). My favorite development environments are PyCharm, PyDev, and Thonny, and I'm familiar with Jupyter Notebooks.

I love helping people. I love seeing my students get it, and how happy that makes them. I love explaining things to people.

I started tutoring in high school to earn an extra buck, and fell in love with it.

I ask students what topics they need help with, and I initially schedule just one session, to make sure we're a good match.

At the end of the 1st session, I give an assessment of what's giving them trouble (e.g. lack of experience programming, weak spots, not starting simple, etc.).

People who have never programmed before.  Masters and Ph.D. students.  Working professionals who need to improve their skills.

If you don't feel good about a tutor, or if you're not satisfied with your rate of learning, try a few other tutors.

Telling a student who completed a tough homework assignment with me to do a victory dance.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What kind of help do they need?  What specifically are you struggling with?  The more specific you can be, the better.  Also, ask for help with a few homework problems, so your tutor can see examples of what they're having trouble with.
