About Hsun

Ms. Chen was born in Taiwan and began her musical studies at the age of four. She continued studying until she received her master’s degree before moving to the U.S. In 2020, she received the Performer’s Diploma in Cello Performance and was awarded a Meadows Artistic Scholarship Award from the Meadows School of the Art at Southern Methodist University, where she studied with renowned soloist Andrés Díaz.

As an active orchestra member in Taiwan, she has toured including Hong Kong, Italy, and Israel. In addition, she has won several solo and chamber music competitions in Taiwan and has been recognized for her achievements. In the past few years, she has taken part in Music Festivals such as the Montecito International Music Festival (2023 Fellowship), Josef Gingold Chamber Music Festival of Miami (2020-2022), In-Person Strings Intensive Program(2022), Round Top Festival Institute (2019 Fellowship), National Orchestral Institute+ Festival (2018 Fellowship), and Cremona International Music Academy in Italy (2017), working with the members of the Diotima String Quartet, Dover Quartet, Escher Quartet and the Rolston Quartet. She has also performed chamber music alongside Andrés Cárdenes, former concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and Dennis Kim, concertmaster of the Pacific Symphony. Her passion for music has led to numerous solo performance opportunities in masterclasses for Gary Hoffman, Thomas Landshoot, Uri Vardi, Jérôme Pinget, Paul Katz, and Ko Iwasaki.

Ms. Chen currently serves as Principal Cello of the Mckinney Philharmonic Orchestra and serves as faculty of the Summer Intensive Program. In the past seasons during the MPO, she has given the solo/chamber music recital and joined the MPO school tour. As an educator, she leads sectionals and serves as chamber music coach of the Greater North Texas Youth Orchestra—as well as a certified Suzuki cello teacher. In addition, she has been a piano accompanist for the Dallas Philharmonic Choir since 2018 and the Dallas Chinese Choral Society since 2021.
