About KaTerra

I really try my best to engage with my students; not only about their musical goals, but also about their life goals. I think it's very important for everyone to be on the same page.

I love interacting with my students and helping them along the way. I really feel like teaching is a team effort, so I want to do everything I can to help guide my students. I hope they also will be honest about what is and isn't working when it comes to teaching methods because I know that not all students learn in the same manner.

Ive always known that I've wanted to teach to teach, but I also wanted to perform. Being able to go to school and practice for recitals while taking classes that were catered to teaching beginning musicians really solidified that dream for me. I started at a music school in town and from that experience alone, I realized that I really wanted my own studio.

I recently graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in Cello performance, so I feel I have the necessary tools to help young, aspiring musicians. I have been playing the Cello for about 19 years now.

About the lesson

When I first work with new students, my first official goal is to make them feel as comfortable as possible. I like to get them talking about their lives and share a little bit about themselves in order to break the ice a bit. I love connecting with my students and showing them that they have a safe place to express themselves from the very beginning.

I have worked with students of all ages and playing backgrounds. Most of my recent students have been beginners.

I think that when you first start out on an instrument, it can be very overwhelming. The best advice I can give a student is to find what sparks your creativity and run with it. Never settle for anything thay makes you feel like you had to choose that option.

I am very fond of graduating from college because it has always been a dream of mine and it finally happened.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
From the very beginning, it's very important to be honest with yourself about what you want out of lessons. Sometimes it may seem daunting to think about everything one might want from lessons and if you don't have the answer from the beginning, that's perfectly ok too. But once you realize what you really want, I think it's important to communicate that as best as possible. That way, you get what you're really asking for and the teacher can accommodate you in the best ways.

Details

Pricing, to me, is very flexible. I am more than willing to work with people and come up with a comfortable system that works. Because I am a recent college graduate, I think $30/hour is not a bad set rate.
