About Nupur

I like to see my student's eyes shine with the discovery of their own success. My small part in that is that I help them focus on their goals.

I have been helping students inforamlly for over 20 years and formally as a tutor and teacher for the past 8 years with a track record of successful students joining prestigious colleges.

To help you learn, I draw on my own experience as a former scientist, and teacher. I have a Ph.D. in molecular Biology and Biochemistry. I also have a Masters' degree in Physical Chemistry.

Even though the first part of my career was research centric, my emphasis has always been on teaching whenever an opportunity presented itself. My over 17 years of experience includes teaching, both in an informal setting and in a traditional classroom (Range of topics: Chemistry, Immunology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology).

As a consultant (2017, 2021), I have been teaching custom microbiology assays to several businesses, where I test the assay design, and modify protocols to client’s needs. Then teach their technicians how to perform these assays, just as you would in a laboratory course.

Further, I designed Immunology curriculum for Washington State University Vancouver, Washington (2017) in a short order. This required identifying all reading materials, streamlining, formatting, and proofing all presentations, and handouts synthesized from two textbooks and over two hundred publications. Streamlining ensured assimilating details of a complex subject was easy for Senior and graduate students. There was no funding for a practicum associated with the class, so I collaborated with an AI company and designed a virtual laboratory so students could experience concepts.

These endeavors gave me an idea: I should teach students on my own time. I have been teaching full time as an independent tutor since/mentor since 2017.

I have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.

I have a Masters' in Physical Chemistry.

My bachelor's degree is in natural sciences.

I have been teaching college level courses since 2016. Additionally I have trained as an AVID coach with the locl school district before the Pandemic hit.

About the lesson

I like to interview the student, parents, for 30 minutes free of charge, and understand what is it that they need help with.

Once hired, I like to test their understanding in the first session which I discount by 50%

Then I come up with a lesson plan with goals to be achieved each week. For middle and highschool students it includes homework help for 50% of the time and new topics discussed 50% time.

For college students, this is designed to discuss topics of their choosing per session.

Preferably, the student works with me throughout the year and has measurable success in subjects that I help them with.

I have worked with students who are in high school; young adults trying to earn a GED; students applying to colleges and/or medical school; Adult students who go to school part time and work full time; and younger students who are in middle school but need more intellectual stimulation.

The best advice I could give a student is: Please ask questions. Ask what the teacher's personal experience is with a subject; what is their teaching philosophy; How do they structure their instructions? and most importantly, why teaching is an important part of their life.

I parasailed for the second time in 2021. I loved the experience. I am fond of parasailing. I am dreaming of going paragliding.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should at least review practice problems, and study examples. Then write down what they did comprehend and what was missing. Certainly if students could identify the source of their problem. Solution is a lot easier.
