About Catherine
Coming from an international background, I am fluent in Mandarin and English. I have spent two years studying in China and can help students with reading, writing, listening, or speaking. I have received the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy for Chinese in the fall of 2019, which is an award bestowed by the Illinois State Board of Education in recognition of students who have attained a high level of proficiency in one or more language in addition to English by high school graduation. I am also familiar with both the AP Chinese Language Exam and the SAT Subject Chinese Test With Listening, having already both taken and passed the two with perfect scores.
I am extremely flexible and am willing to connect with students at any time. I am also enthusiastic and willing have a positive impact on students discouraged by difficulties at school to excel.
I enjoy being able to help students because I understand the frustration of not understanding the intricacies of a language. I want to help students view learning a foreign language as fun and exciting and truly appreciate the culture.
I worked for a year and a half as a TA for a fifth and sixth grade Chinese class. In addition, I am currently working as an oral Chinese translator for church services on the weekends.

I am first test the student's ability with a small quiz to understand what area the student needs the most help with. After establishing the main goals through communicating with students and their parents, I will create a personalized study plan for any time period needed in order to best suit the interests of the student.
