About Lizzy

As a student myself, I can relate to many of those who may be frustrated due to their inability to immediately grasp a concept. I base my explanations on simplicity, using patterns (especially regarding math and linguistics) to provide clarity on concepts that the student may be struggling with.

I have been tutoring for four years now. I have tutored in Japanese, English, math, literature, and world history. I enjoy tutoring because I want to help other students achieve their academic success.

I enjoy tutoring because I can help these students achieve their goals, and I am passionate about ensuring that students are successful in an academic environment that, at times, they may consider overwhelming or stressful. Once the student fully understands the material, their attitude towards school may change for the better as well.

I became interested in tutoring because I want to teach English as a second language when I am older, and I think getting experience as a high school student is beneficial.

I have not only tutored for other students at my school, but I have also participated in other extracurriculars that require me to teach or explain specific materials or concepts. These include Japan Bowl, a Japanese Language and Culture Competition, and Academic Decathlon.

About the lesson

When I approach tutoring, I ensure to explain the material that appeals to their personal learning style, which I observe based on what methods of teaching they respond best to or how they prefer to study.

Although I have mainly worked with students at my high school, I am looking to expand to teach younger students, such as elementary or middle schoolers.

When giving advice to a student looking to hire someone with my expertise, I would explain that both parties must work with effort in order to achieve desired results. Although the student must pay attention and ask questions, it is the tutor's responsibility to ensure the student's success and ability to grasp the concept in a comfortable, understandable manner.

A recent event I am fond of is attending a fansign for one of my favorite Korean pop music groups, SuperM. I met my favorite member, Mark Lee, and he was extremely polite. Although we only talked for a brief amount of time, his genuine smile and positive attitude was impactful for me. I look up to his hard work and optimism, and I truly enjoyed meeting him.

Before talking to someone about their needs, a student should consider what they struggle with the most and whether any previously learned material should be reviewed or clarified.
