About Roberta
I am a graduate of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, with an AA degree in Mandarin Chinese. At graduation, I tested at a general professional proficiency in both listening and reading (both simplified and traditional), and have maintained that score for three years.
Before I attended DLI, I worked for two years as a camp counsellor at Camp Fire, an after school program for elementary-aged children. On top of my experience working with kids, I have peer tutoring experience from the time I was in school.
I tutor all ages, both children and adults in Chinese-Mandarin in reading, speaking, and listening, and would also be happy to teach ESL to Mandarin speaking students.
My goal as a tutor is to encourage good study habits, and to foster in students an deeper interest and appreciation for second language learning
