About Andrew

With multiple years of experience in the workforce doing Java programming as well as a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, I know how to implement Object-Oriented programming solutions at the highest level. I also have experience converting Legacy Cobol developers into Java experts in the workforce, so I know how to help you pass a class, get ready for an interview, or start building applications on your own!

I enjoy teaching people because this technology is powerful enough to impact people at scale. If I can develop something that helps one person's life that is awesome, but if I can build something that makes millions of lives easier, then that is incredible. If I can teach others the same skills I have, then they can be equipped to have a similar impact on others. This is someting I am extremely passionate about and my motivation to teach others.

About the lesson

I first try to understand the scope of the student's needs( i.e. College Course, High School Course, Job Interview Prep, Bootcamp-style resources), and then I tailor material to help my student reach his/her goals. My tutoring is done virtually, which actually proves to be much easier with computer-science related education. Once we establish goals, we will meet on a regular cadence and I will give the student all of the tools they need to feel both confident and empowered to be able to work on their own. Additionally, because I work from home currently due to the pandemic, I have time to answer quick questions my students come across during the day so they don't remain stuck for extended periods of time.

College Students, industry legacy COBOL developers trying to convert to modernized Java tech stack.

One of my biggest criticisms of college professors during my tenure was the inexperience they had many times in industry. Whenever I learned from someone that worked in the "real" world, they always tailored my learning towards the things I needed to know most in a professional job. The concepts I want individuals to grasp the most are the ones that are going to propel their career.

I volunteered for a non-profit startup Affordable. They are an aggregate portal to try and find the most affordable health care plans and grants for individuals. I did full stack development for this application. More information can be found at (concealed information)
