About Jerome
Hello! My name is Jerome St.Martin, and I'm here to help beginner and intermediate computer programmers take a deep dive into the discipline and learn what it means to write good code!
I specialize in tutoring about data structures, algorithms, and general programming ranging from freshman level to junior undergraduate level, I am also very willing and capable of tutoring high-school students in computer science and mathematics.
My experience: I worked as a teaching assistant for undergraduate Computer Science students at WWU for six months while studying for a Master's in CompSci, and this opened my eyes to how much I enjoy helping others learn this wonderful skillset. I do NOT yet hold an MS in CompSci, but I have both studied in & tutored for junior and senior university computer science courses extensively. My undergraduate degree is in Creative Writing, with a minor in Computer Science.
I currently am working as an independent game developer and freelance software developer in addition to running this tutoring business. I have a deep running passion for computer programming, and I truly believe it's a skill that anyone can learn! Yes, it is challenging, yes it requires some mathematics, and yes, it's a fun and rewarding skillset! With enough practice, any perhaps a little guidance, I know you or your child can learn to love it too.
Languages I know better than others: Rust, Java, Python
I believe anyone can learn to code, and I want to put that belief to the test! I love that the discipline is both challenging and fun at the same time, all-the-while being a super valuable skill to develop. For me, it's a win-win-win, and my hope is that you find your way to that same belief through my tutoring.

A minor in CompSci which I revieved concurrently with my BA in English from Western Washington University, in addition to 6 months working as a computer science tutor at WWU while taking classes there as a CompSci graduate student in 2020.

About the lesson

We'll start with a zoom call where I asses the student's current understanding, current homework requirements (if any), and their academic goals. Based on what comes of that, I will help formulate a plan to reach these goals and schedule a day for us to meet weekly via Zoom or in-person to begin.
Mostly, undergraduate computer science students in their junior year at WWU, but I also taught a class for cybersecurity students who had very little programming experience prior to working with me.
Make sure your tutor has a solid understanding of the coursework you're currently learning. Computer science is a very diverse field of study, and no single programmer understands the entire field!
