About Houston
My passion for education stems from my belief that everyone can succeed given the proper instruction. I believe that every student is unique and should have personalized instruction taylored to their specific needs, as well as related to their personal interests in order to keep them engaged.
I have experience as a teacher, tutor, and even more recently as a director of a learning center! In my time as a tutor, I've learned as much from my students as I've taught them, as the experiences can be both eye-openinig and rewarding!
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education, with a focus in Social Studies. I've also been awarded as the speech competition winner of the "Speak Up Louisville" speech compeition of 2016, so I personally have a passion for public speaking!
I got started teaching after I won a speech compeition that once of my professors in college coached me through. It was a moment of genuine pride in my life when I was beaten down, and it inspired me to pass along the experience to others!
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education and have experience teaching both in and outside of a classroom.

When working with a new student, I always take some time to get to know the student. Hobbies, experiences, and moments of pride are all essential for me to understand how to best keep a student engaged before discussing their goals.
I've worked with all sorts of students: middle schoolers, high schoolers, and even a couple of college students! I've found that most of the students I've worked with need assistance with one primary weak point: their confidence.
Don't be afraid to make any mistakes along the way. Mistakes are how we learn, and too often I see students who are often so paralyzed by a fear of failture that they refuse to begin even trying!
Having recently been promoted to a director at the learning center I work at from a tutor, one of my previous students recently admitted they made drawings to bring me while I was still their tutor, but they'd forgotten to bring them. It brought a literal tear to my eye!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would urge students to ask themselves the following:
-what am I trying to achieve?
-how much time do I need to achieve it?
-am I trying to achieve something measurable, like a test grade, or something more abstract, like building my confidence in a certain subject?
-how much time am I willing to dedicate to this?
