About Luke

Hi, I’m Luke - a dedicated and experienced tutor with a passion for helping students unlock their academic potential. With over five years of teaching experience in both further and higher education, I’ve had the privilege of supporting students across a range of academic levels, from college learners to undergraduates. My teaching approach is always tailored, supportive, and built around each individual’s needs and goals. I hold an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Psychology, which I achieved with Distinction, a BA (Hons) in Public Service Management (2:1), and a PGCE in Lifelong Learning, qualifying me to teach in both further and higher education settings. These qualifications, combined with years of classroom and one-to-one experience, have given me the tools to help students not only understand complex material but also apply it with confidence. For two years, I held the position of Programme Leader for two undergraduate degrees: BA (Hons) Criminology and Law, and FdA Public Service Management. This role allowed me to develop deep expertise in curriculum design, academic mentoring, and supporting students to meet their full potential in both written work and wider academic performance. Alongside formal teaching, I’ve worked as a private tutor, including supporting a student with complex needs who achieved an A grade in A-Level Criminology after two years of one-on-one tuition. Seeing that kind of progress and confidence boost is exactly why I love this work. I also bring real-world insight to my tutoring through my experience working with South Yorkshire Police as an Appropriate Adult. For two years, I supported individuals in custody through interviews, DNA testing, rights readings, and more. This experience adds practical depth to my Criminology, Law and Psychology teachings. About the lesson

My teaching approach is highly structured and tailored to each student's unique needs and goals. I use a blend of proven pedagogical techniques, including active recall, case study analysis, and critical thinking exercises, to deepen understanding and promote long-term retention. Typical lessons start with a brief review of previous material, followed by focused exploration of key concepts through discussion, real-world examples and practical applications. I incorporate exam-style questions and essay planning to prepare students for assessments. What sets me apart is my combination of academic excellence - including a Master's with Distinction - and practical experience working alongside law enforcement, which enriches my lessons with real-world insights. My sessions are designed for motivated college and undergraduate students seeking to excel academically and develop critical analytical skills.
