About Anthony

My day job is drawing and in my free time I like to draw. That about sums up how much I LOVE drawing. I am an outgoing and friendly guy who is very passionate about my craft. You CAN learn how to draw and I can teach you. From beginning drawing to portraiture and storyboarding to comic book art, I have a vast wealth of knowledge from over 20 years of experience as a Freelance Illustrator. I have mastered the art of fine art pencil portraiture and I have published 5 books under my own comic label, Relics Comics. My day job is cartooning and working for a local whiteboard animation company in Salt Lake City. People asked for it. There were literally folks that would approach me and ask me to teach them or their children how to draw. I love being able to show people that they can draw with some practice.

As far as 'book-learning', I have studied traditional animation at Salt Lake Community College and Illustration at the University of Utah. A lot of my instruction comes from being self-taught.

About the lesson

I like to start from scratch with any student and teach them the basics, but I will work with them based on their experience. I typically have a set number of lessons for any given course in order to cover the instruction necessary. I like to keep class sizes small (up to 8 students per class) in order to provide much needed attention and support. I like to have fun with my classes and I really like to help my students 'get it' when it comes to drawing, line-work, shading, etc.

I have worked mainly with adults and teens. I like teaching those who have an interest in learning how to draw or become better at drawing. Therefore I tend to work with people who have already made up the decision in their mind to learn the skill.

If you are truly interested in learning how to draw, look at the portfolio (body of work) of the particular artist you looking to hire as your instructor. Their work speaks VOLUMES. I would say that is 50% of the pie. The remaining bits of that pie would be personality, teaching ability, professional resume, availability, price, etc.

Comic Con! I recently had booths at Salt Lake and LA Comic Cons and I really enjoy mingling with fans and selling my comic books and artwork.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If you want to learn how to draw, then you are a beginner. I can draw and yet when I see artists that can draw better than I can, I consider myself a beginner at their feet. That way, I am in a position to learn everything and learn all the knowledge that they have to impart. When learning how to draw, it's all about doing. The more you draw, the better you will become.

Details

$50/hr or $30/30 min, per person. - $5/hr military/student discount with appropriate credentials. $5/hr travel fee to come to your location. There is a one-time materials fee of $30-50 depending on the course. Courses are taught in West Jordan, UT.
