About Stephanie
I have been teaching at UCLA extension and privately since 2004. I have worked with beginners, intermediate and advanced students to reach goals as varied as how to hold a palette knife and mix colors, learning skills to create fully rendered portraits or establishing a portfolio necessary for entry into undergraduate and graduate art programs.
I love teaching and find that teaching is a partnership between me and the student. I like to teach a variety of abilities and feel that every student has something new to learn. My website is (concealed information)
I started teaching as a teachers aid at UCLA while I was an MFA candidate. (2 quarters/year for 3 years) 1997-2000. Soon after I began teaching at Brentwood Art Center in Santa Monica, CA and then at UCLA Extension since 2004. I began private teaching in 2004.
Undergraduate degree in art and art history with honors, cum laude from Colgate University. Post Baccalaureate from School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Summer program study at Slade School of Fine Art in London. MFA from UCLA.
I have been teaching children, teens, adults and adults with intellectual disabilities/age related illnesses for 14 years.

I always assess where the student is in the learning process. Instruction is obviously different for a beginner vs. advanced. I talk to the student about goals and go from there.
I have worked with everyone from total beginners to students who needed portfolio help that eventually were accepted to top art programs both undergraduate and graduate
Make sure you talk to the teacher first about goals and your experience as an artist to make sure it's a good fit.
Recently I have been working on quite a bit of commissions and have been involved in several group shows.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should know that making art is fun but sometimes challenging and that results occur over time. But if you are dedicated there is always success.

I have been receiving private lessons from Stephanie for six years. Not only is she a very experienced and talented artist, she's a great teacher as well. We began our work with pastels and drawing, before moving on to acrylics. She's a very proficient instructor, both technically and creatively. Stephanie is a real inspiration as an artist, teacher, and person!
Stephanie is an excellent teacher, very easy to work with and extremely knowledgeable about drawing, painting and the art field including artists and art history. She helped me to work with new mediums and develop my portfolio to get into grad school. I worked with her in classes and individually. I highly recommend her as an art teacher.
