About Lucia

I've been teaching visual arts for 27 years, chairing art departments at 3 Southern California Independent High Schools as well as teaching Illustration Concepts and Methods at Otis College of Art and Design. I was awarded Teacher of the Year from Otis in 2011

I have a broad range of ability and styles and so can address the aesthetic desire of students' unique expressions rather than impose my own.

I was trained as an illustrator at Art Center College of Design and have a lifetime of experience to draw from. I have worked for the motion picture industry, painting copies of masterpieces and portraits as well as designing sets, set pieces and scenic art. I have done faux finishing and some conservation work for the Getty Museum and my commissioned work includes painting created for nationally recognized artist to illustrate and design pieces that have been shown in major museums throughout the US.

I love teaching, sharing ways of seeing, metaphorical thinking and the techniques of drawing and painting. In my own work, I focus on the way light animates, revealing shapes and shadows and evokes moods.
