About Robert
My professional experience in both teaching and making 2D and 3D art is extensive and varied. I received a MFA in painting from Hunter College, and have taught art classes to people of all ages. My experience as a cg artist in the motion picture industry and the game business for fourteen years, along with twenty-seven years of making and showing fine art, gives me a current base of knowledge that I can share with students as they prepare for their careers in art-related fields.
I have a long history of teaching painting, drawing, design, computer animation, color theory, and digital graphics through private lessons. Due to my unique professional experience as both a 2D and 3D artist, I have been invited to be a guest lecturer at both SCI-Arc, the innovative architecture school and think tank in downtown Los Angeles, and The University of Kentucky. My goal was to concentrate on the student’s ability to tell a story using solid principles of art and design. From my comments and practice techniques, the students learned initial concept design through sketching and storyboarding, evaluating and manipulating computer programs for the needs of their projects, and the value of teamwork to achieve results.
From years of drawing and painting, along with creating digital sets, animation, and backgrounds for movies, I have acquired knowledge and perfected specific exercises that will hone students’ ability to think visually. I am convinced that the power to suspend disbelief, a quality which is exhibited in the best artwork, is a result of how practiced the artist is at this skill. My efforts as an art teacher have always centered on transferring to students this knowledge of how to effectively communicate visually.
