About Darren
I've been drawing, painting and creating my entire life. You have to know the rules to break them. I teach composition, perspective, lightsource, fabric folds, color composition, still life and other subject matter. I've traveled to Europe and seen classics and contemporaries that inspire. Art is a lifelong passion of mine and I love to pass on what I know to the next generation.
I enjoy the details most. Seeing how something is made is fascinating. Brush strokes and pencil lines tell a tale that only a human hand can. All of my art is created on paper or canvas or with clay by hand. Digital creators are wonderful but there is a connection that is lost for me when you draw and render on a tablet.
I began helping friends and it grew from there.
I have been in art classes my entire life. I was in the art honor society in high school and then in art classes throughout college. I've practiced all sorts of techniques and am a constant student myself, learning from peers and mentors in the art world.

I like to go over the basics and see what the student's current skill level is and where they would like to see improvement. Once goals are established, we can focus on timeframe and plan of attack, whether it's practicing weakpoints or grasping concepts they aren't familar with.
I've worked with students from various backgrounds and experience levels.
Ask what they enjoy and what they value in their work. Art is a combination of techinical ability and creative midset. The best artists are a combination of the two. The greats are able to seperate themselves from the pack with unique and original subject matter and style. Figure out what your goals are, communicate that to the teacher, and see if your goals align.
Los Angeles has regular exhibits and events. Coupled with top notch museums, LA is a wonderful place to learn.
