About Lauren

I was a National Hispanic Scholar and won over $88,000 of scholarship money as an undergraduate student. As a Master's of Social Work student I won $15,000 even though everyone told me there was no money. All of this was due to essay writing.

I have worked with children, teens, and adults. I come from a strengths perspective, which means I believe you can do it! You just need a little support! We all do sometimes!

I love to help people. It's why I became a social worker! As a person who enjoys the exercise of critical thinking, it's fun to figure out what the challenge is so we can create a solution! Tutoring is like figuring out a puzzle! Besides, getting to know new people is fun. We will laugh together and turn the challenges into fun as a team.

I have a Bachelors of Humanities and Masters of Social Work. Both are writing intensive, research oriented, and critical thinking focused degrees. As mentioned earlier, I have extensive scholarship writing experience. Additionally, I have grant writing training and experience.

About the lesson

First, let's talk and see if we think we will work together well. We'll get to know each other a bit and discuss your goals.

If we decide we want to move forward, then you can bring a specific assignment on which we can work. If you are looking for some general help and improvement on your essay writing, then I may create some assignments for you.

Applications like Word or Grammarly help with grammar and spelling. We will work on the other stuff. This could include: the flow of your essay; the logic of your arguments; the context of your word choices. We will decide together the best place to start.

I will also use my social work skills to help you create practicals to help you succeed. It could be a simple thing like choosing a time of day and place to write! Did you know that rewarding yourself for small wins can help improve your writing?

I will help you choose specific areas that we need to target first and then continue to refine your writing. This process is different for each person. Depending on your goals, it can take a longer term approach to see the results you want!

I specialize working with college aged students and adults.

Besides the obvious necessity that your tutor knows how to write, it is also important you enjoy working with them! If you don't look forward to meeting with your tutor, then it can make something that is already hard enough even more difficult!

After that, $125 for 45 minutes of a session. That includes sending me a copy of an assignment ahead of time so I can be ready to work with you once we begin.
