About Ashley
Writing is hard, but I'm here to help. I've been working as a university writing tutor for two semesters and it's my absolute favorite job. I love talking to students about their writing, especially when I see things start to click for them. My tutoring approach is very conversation-based; I believe that knowledge is gained through conversation and that students' writing improves most when they talk through their ideas. Conversation about writing strengthens arguments and forms new connections. I'd love to help you talk through your ideas to help you write a better paper!
I love meeting new students and seeing their confidence grow as they start improving. It's rewarding for both of us when students get better grades on their writing assignments and see the progress they've made through each draft.
I had a really great professor who helped a lot with my writing and boosted my confidence when it came to writing essays. This professor showed me the impact that a good writing tutor can make, and I am forever grateful for the time she put in to help me improve my writing. At the end of the semester, this professor suggested that I apply to become a writing tutor for the university. I have been a university writing tutor for just over a year and I truly love it.

I like to get to know students before we dive into writing. Besides learning about their hobbies and interests (we might have some in common!), I'm also interested in their experience with writing in the past. Are they a confident writer? What do they feel are their strengths and weaknesses? Is there anything in particular they would like me to focus on?
I have mainly worked with college students of a variety of majors, but I have also worked with a few high school students on essays and college applications.
Look for a writing tutor who will push you the right amount, someone who will meet you where you are and encourage you to improve your work. I also suggest finding a writing tutor you feel comfortable around. I don't think that a tutoring appointment will be productive or successful if a student is completely intimidated by their tutor.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would invite students to think about their goals for each writing assignment. As a writing tutor, I have found that working with students who simply want to pass the class is quite different than working with students who want an A grade. I'm willing to put forth as much effort as you are.
