About Romie

I have over 6 years of tutoring experience, specializing in SAT prep and STEM-related courses. I believe every student learns differently and my holistic tutoring approach deeply appreciates students as unique individuals with distinct learning styles and academic goals and I strive to personalize learning materials as best as possible.

The SAT test is a test of strategy, not necessarily academic aptitude. My SAT method has been proven to boost SAT scores by at least 25% within just a month of lessons. It is based on the idea of simplifying and condensing loads of information with shortcuts (or "Rules and Tools") in order to efficiently (and correctly) answer questions.

I love to use virtual whiteboards and REAL SAT questions/exams to help students, both new and old in their prep journey, familiarize themselves with the format and expectations of the SAT exam.

I am passionate about making learning personally relevant for my students and instilling within them a go-getter attitude. School can be an extremely stressful and challenging environment for many students, and I strive to be their advocate and mentor. It's very important that my students learn how to apply themselves to overcome academic challenges AND succeed outside of school.

I earned my BA in Psychology at the University of Rochester in 2013. I also have an extensive work history in the medical field (EMT, medical scribe).

I have years of experience working with students who also deal with anxiety and stress from school. I work very hard to make sure that students can turn to me as both a source of academic help and emotional/mental support.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I like to spend some quality time getting to know certain aspects of the student that I plan to apply to our lessons such as studying styles, academic goals, interests/hobbies, personal strengths, and weaknesses. I believe these are all important qualities that help tremendously when personalizing learning materials so that the lesson accommodates the student on a holistic level.

I have worked with primarily high school students, including students in IEP.

If you are a student seeking SAT prep help, I would look into how the teacher prepares and executes his/her lessons. The SAT exam is a strategy exam and my personal SAT approach has been proven to significantly boost SAT scores in a very short amount of time. It isn't uncommon for SAT prep teachers to straightforwardly review SAT exams, section by section, but my SAT plan focuses on training students on simplifying and condensing the information presented in an objective manner. I provide really useful shortcuts ("Rules and Tools") for all sections and even formula sheets for the SAT math section. I also go through each subsection of the SAT math portion (Heart of Algebra, Passport to Advanced Math, Data Analysis & Problem-solving, Additional topics in math) topic by topic so that students understand the mathematical foundations before approaching these sections.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should have a basic understanding of their own personal way of studying. Are you a visual learner? Do you like to draw out diagrams? Are you someone who likes to use index cards? Quizlets? This helps me greatly understand you as a student and better personalize the lessons specifically to your style.
