About Lily
I am a sophomore at Muhlenberg College hired by my school as a writing tutor. I have completed a course in Writing Theory, and regularly work with students online!
I was recommended by my first year writing intensive professor to interview for a writing tutor position, and I was chosen!
I work as a writing tutor at Muhlenberg College, in our very selective program. There are twenty students chosen each year to be writing tutors based on faculty recommendations, and we complete a course in Writing Theory as well as many shadowing sessions with experienced tutors already in the program.

About the lesson

I start by devoting some time to getting to know the student and their concerns about a specific assignment or writing in general, then I will ask them to read their essay out loud if they have one done and are looking for edits. If they are looking for somewhere to star with an essay, I will ask them to read the assignment and have them tell me a little about the topic they are supposed to write on. Generally speaking, I use a conversation based approach, however my exact process will be dependent on the individual student.
Mostly college students, but the strategies and methods I use are universal, and easily applicable to high school students.
Look for a teacher who is interested in improving your writing overall, not just fixing grammatical errors in an isolated paper.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How do you feel about the assignment? Sharing frustrations with a tutor will help them understand why you may be having difficulty. What are your specific concerns about your writing? What feedback have you gotten on previous assignments or what recurring issues do you have?
