About Steve

I have over 13 years of football knowledge. I played in high school at the MIAA level and was a student assistant coach at West Virginia University. I have been coaching MIAA-A High School for 8 years. My strongest skill has always been coaching the skills from the ground up. Coming up with unique ways to adapt to the players learning style. With a great understanding of schemes and tendencies, I can have any athlete with hard-work, drive, and determination up to speed with their competition in no time!

I began working with the West Virginia Football team in college and was fascinated with the player/coach relationship and knew it was something I wanted to do. It was truly an experience of a lifetime.

I graduated West Virginia University with a degree in Athletic Coaching Education and a minor in Sports and Exercise Psychology. I have been coaching athletics for over 10-years with a heavy focus in football in the past 8 years.

About the lesson

The first lesson typically I'd like to get a feel for the athlete's overall athletisim as well as knowledge of the game. After determining that, building a plan of action that would most benefit and grow the athlete at their current stage. My idea is to build the athlete from the ground up, giving them only information that would make our sessions successful.

I have worked with athletes of all ages and backgrounds - college athletes, high school, middle school, even taught swim lessons to elementary school and athletes with disabilites.

Be ready to be coachable. Being coachable means taking critism and turning it into a positive. My job is not to break the athlete down, my job is to find weaknesses in an athlete's game and make it a strength.

This past season I really felt I did a better job connecting with my athletes on a personal level, both football-wise and in life. It's important to know what is going on in the athletes' lives to determine their recent moods. It's also important for the athlete to understand the game-plan. By pulling athlete's aside, I've been able to break down football concepts to understandable bits.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What achievable goal would the athlete like to accomplish for this upcoming season?
