About Katrina

Hello! I am an American citizen who grew up and France and has had the blessing of being able to teach and tutor language since I was 14 years old. I play guitar, love to draw, just had a beautiful baby boy, and have been a type 1 diabetic my whole life. I work well with children and have taught students from elementary to high school age for several years.

I earned a TESOL certificate (teaching English to speakers of other languages) in 2017 and an Associate of Arts in 2020. Being a French citizen as well I am familiar with all things French, and can teach you in just about whatever level you need help in, whether it's to simply engage in conversation or because you need it for professional work. If you are a foreign English speaker, I am also trained in helping there, and I love doing it.

I have references and referrals from just about everyone I've worked with, and I'm looking forward to helping you too!

Being able to speak English means all the French mothers want to hire you! This means I had many opportunities to being tutoring even before I turned 15. That's almost ten years now!

I have both a TESOL certificate and an associate of arts, as well as a love of learning and my own desire to speak the world's languages (I'm learning Japanese and Spanish currently ). I grew up speaking English and French, and always enjoy dabbling in Arabic.
I work well with children and have been nannying/tutoring since I was 14 years old. I have worked with 6 year olds and 17 year olds, among others.

About the lesson

As I'm new at online teaching, I'm excited to cater each session to each student's unique learning style. The first session will likely be an exchange of expectations and a chance for me to discover your level. I am highly conversation and literature centered as I believe engaging with a language is a better way to learn it than memorizing vocabulary words. Then as we get to know your strengths, we can engage in instructional activities and work to get you to your language goal.

From elementary students to a high school junior! The younger students only wanted to be able to converse well, but the 17 desired a more professional level of English than was taught in her school as she wished to go into politics.

Find someone who can engage with you! Who ignites a passion or curiosity for the language, and who knows the culture and context behind it!

Just went on a Christmas trip to Montana with my husband and new born son! Our love of travel and excitement for adventure made the trip a wonderful event that made us wish for RV life.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is your goal? Have a broad goal, then an specific one. For example: broad goal--to be able to order food at a foreign restaurant. Specific goal--to be able to pronounce the foods on the menu correctly. When you achieve the smaller goal, make a new one that still fits into the bigger goal's theme. This gives you a focus for your overall learning as well as encouragement when you reach each smaller goal.

Details

I am always flexible with my rates and usually work for $15-30 an hour. If your goal is conversation or just passing a class, $15-20 is my standard. If you wish for more, what we call "professional" French for work or such, the rate is a bit higher. I will work to find reading/watching material that is available online, but you will be responsible for procuring books or materials that you'll need in person.
