About Steven
With a degree in French and about a years' worth of experience living in Paris, I have acquired near-native fluency in French and extensive knowledge of French history and culture. An advantage of my service is that as a native English speaker, I already know the difficulties of learning French and methods to facilitate learning them-- whether it's prepositions, passé composé vs l'imparfait, pronunciation, or other tricky subjects you have encountered or that may arise. In addition, although I have limitd experience teaching French, I have a TEFL certification for teaching English, and the tools and techniques for teaching one language are easily transferable to another.
As a linguistics enthusiast and lover of languages, I not only loved learning French, but love watching others progress. What makes foreign languages unique to other subjects is that you can take what you learn and immediately use it in the real world. If you are learning biology, for example, one semester of a biology class probably won't enable you to write an academic research paper, or even be able to understand one. But after a semester of French, you would probably be able to travel to Montréal or Paris and be able to communicate with locals, at least basic conversation. Giving someone that ability to connect with others is invaluable, especially it can be acquired in such a short time.
