About Tom

An extinsive background in teaching that started in the late 60's. Teaching at Fripp Island Resort, Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island, Beechwood G.C. , and Azalea Sands in N. Myrle Beach, Westwood Country Club in Houston, and presently at Cypress Lakes Golf Club in Cypress TX. for over three years. I have had the privilage of teaching people who have never picked up a club, professional athletes, to touring professionals A students phyical abilities are my first consideration. The fundamentals are always the starting point. The most important thing to keep in mind is; You don't take up golf, golf takes up you !

Teaching has always been in the forefront of my life in golf. The fact that there is no other sport that relies entirely on the player. My understanding of both the frustration and personal pleasure that is achieved with a golf swing is what motivated me to learn as much as I could about the golf swing and share the information with others.

I have had the priviledge of working with some of the best playing , teaching professional who were PGA Touring Professionals, at an early stage in my career. I continue to work with Homero Blancas here at Cypress Lakes. Mr. Blancas was a feature story in the October, Golf Digest Magagine entitled "The Miracles Issue."

About the lesson

First and foremost is what, if any, are their physical limitations. It is always import to work with what the student is not capable of doing more so than what they are. Working with limitations prevents the student from starting with what they see as a negitive, and utlilizing other phyisal attributes to over come the negitive.

I will never forget the 55 year old gentelman with one arm; his right arm, a right hander! I can still see the smile on his face!

Professional football players with a tremendous amount of physical talent that were reduced to total frustration with their playing ability.

Always be certain that the personalities fit. If your looking for an instructor that you don't feel connected too, move on. If you are shooting 108, but have an urgent need to shoot 70, be absolutly certain in your personal assessment, and be willing to put in the time. The adverage golfer in the U.S. today shoots well over 100!

Simply put, when it comes to teaching; all of them!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Learning to play golf should always be looked upon as fun. If you feel you have time to practice, and play on a regular basis, that's half the battle. Always take into account the weather. A cold body will not function as well as a warm body. Pick the right time of year. If it's raining or windy, be willing to reschedule your lesson and get the most out of it.

See you on the tee !
