About Jared

Hello Everyone,

My name is Jared Rao. I am a guitarist/songwriter from San Francisco currently studying as a performance major at Berklee College of Music. I have been playing guitar since I was five years old and began writing music shortly after that. I have been part of several bands and ensambles playing everything from jazz to classic rock and metal. I also spent 6 years learning classical guitar. I have performed thoughout the San Francisco Bay Area and have played alongside members from Legendary Funk/R&B group Tower of Power as well as Contemporary Soul Singer Allen Stone.

My experience teaching began during the summer of 2014 at Blue Bear School of Music, where I was asked to become an instructor for their summer camps. I was an instructor for Guitar camps and Songwriting camps which required me to work with mostly younger kids at a variety of skill levels. In 2019, I began teaching private guitar lessons.

I always enjoy watching my stundents improve and find a passion for music. Seeing your students face light up when they hear a cool guitar part for the first time is truly something special. As an Instructor I find it important to first learn the basics and apply what you learned to music that you like. Playing Guitar is something that should be fun and I have found that the more fun a student is having the more they learn. I try to make learning as fun as possible while teaching the importance of timing and technique.

I started teaching when I was asked to become an Instructor fopr summer camps at Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco. My Dad works there as a full time guitar teacher and I had been taking camps their since I was little. The other teachers that worked there recognized my abilites as a guitarist and songwriter. They were also aware that I had the patience to work with any student.

I have been playing guitar consistently since I was Five. I went to an arts high school where I studied classical guitar and I am currently a student at Berklee College of Music.

I also have Seven years of experience teaching. I have taught at Guitar and Songwriting camps and I have been teaching private guitar lessons for about three years.

About the lesson

First I try to get to know my students musical backround. This is everything from what music they like, to how much experience (if any) they have playing the instrument. If they have no experience at all, I start out by teaching names of the open strings as well as the basic open string chords. If they have more experience, then we dive into more complex concepts such as improvisation and composition.

I have worked with many students at a variety of skill levels and ages. I have worked with primarily younger kids who were in the beginning of learning guitar but I have also worked with adults and experienced teenagers.

"It is never too late to start and be pacient with yourself." This applies to everything and everyone. Whether you are a beginner who has never touched a guitar, or whether you have played guitar for awhile but have never written music. Be pacient with yourself and give yourself time to grow.

During my freshman year at Berklee College of Music, I was selected to perform at the Berklee Rock/Pop Guitar Night. This is a showcase where the Berklee Guitar Department picks seven or eight of the best Rock/Pop guitarists at the school to perform a few songs at the main Berklee performance Venue.

Details

I only do full hour and half hour lessons. Half hour lessons are 35 dollars and hour lessons are 60 dollars.
