About Jim

My students typically play their first song (pretty and complicated) within their first 2 lessons. They tend to progress more rapidly than others.

Many teachers start with technical information that can frustrate and bore students. For example, one woman complained that she had been taking lessons for 6 weeks, but hadn't learned to play a single song. My philosophy is: First teach students to enjoy playing guitar, then they will be interested in learning the technical information.

I've played for 50 years and taught for 20. I have studio-recorded, copyrighted my music, and composed enough to fill 5 albums. I have also performed before audiences as a solo acoustic guitar artist. I don't sing much, so my guitar does all the work.

I derive great satisfaction in helping others to build the same love for the guitar that I enjoy. Guitar music has been a beautiful backdrop to my life. It has serenaded me and my loved ones through the good times and consoled us through the hard times. It gives me great pleasure to create music that others enjoy. It's priceless and no one can take it from me. It's one way of making the world a better place.
