About Jay

With a faculty of fifteen instructors, we strive to match the personality of the student and teacher. We also take into account the genre of music to be studied, seriousness of the student, and long term musical goals.

As students grow musically it is not uncommon for them to change their course of study, we have had students start with popular music, discover the classics, find they love it, and change teachers. (and vice versa)

Families with several students can book lessons with different teachers at the same time to reduce waiting time.

Our 6 lesson studios are large and well lit, with glass doors so parents can check in on their childrens progress. The lesson instruments are all top quality.

The most enjoyable part of teaching is seeing the students grow both musically and in their personal lives.

Our students have won local, regional, and state competitions. A few have placed nationaly, but no first place national winners, Yet!

Students have gone on to play in churches and bands, most get into the music college of their choice. Several students have become music teachers themselves.

Over time we have seen many younger students do better in school, and have an improved family life. Adult students share with us that playing helps them relax, feel more satisfied, and relieves work related stress.

Having taught thousands of students over the years, Kay and Jay are well equipped to coach the staff of teachers when a unique challenge pops up with a student.

Our teachers are college educated, several with Masters degrees in music education or performance. Most teachers are also performing musicians in the area. All of our teachers have years of experience teaching.

At the first meeting we get to know one another.

The teacher does a skills evaluation to determine what the student already knows. After which we talk about the types of music the student likes, how serious the student is about learning, and where the student hopes to be musically a year down the road. Only then do we start making a lesson plan.

This is also the time for students and their parents to ask any questions about the studio policies, practice time, and the student handbook.

We teach students from about 6 years old all the way to retired folks. We have worked with students with learning and attention challenges. We have had students with hearing and sight impairments.

Make sure your teacher and student are compatiable, and have the same goals in mind.

There is no govermental accrediting agency for private music teachers. It is up to you to find out what their level of education is, how well they play, how long they have been teaching, what their criminal bacground is, and what their sucess rate is.

While lesson rates can vary somewhat, be wary of rates that are much lower than average. The hardest job teachers have is correcting bad habits allowed by unqualified teachers.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What instrument do I want to play?

2. How much time can I afford for practice?

3. Will I need to give up another activity?

4. Is my instrument adiquate for practice at a beginning level?
