About Katie

My teaching approach:

I teach the Classical Guitar technique as well as the basics of acoustic guitar. I think it's important for students to have a basic knowledge of acoustic guitar. Once the basics of acoustic guitar are established, students will become more educated in the classical guitar technique. Learning how to read notes and music theory will be taught from the very beginning.

My influences are:

Andres Segovia, John Williams, Ana Vidovik, Johann Sebastian Bach.

I teach in student's homes in Central, Northeastern Connecticut, Worcester area, and Northwestern RI

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

If they are an absolute beginner, the first thing I teach them is the first three notes on the high-E string. If they understand this in the first lesson, I consider this a success for the future. If the student already has a basic knowledge of the guitar I first see if the student can read notes. Second, I see if the student knows the names of the chords he is playing and whether he understands why the chords are called as such.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

If the student already has a basic knowledge of guitar but does not know how to read notes, learning how to read notes will be taught as well as other techniques the student may be unfamiliar with.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

A guitar student that practices thirty to sixty minutes a day and wants to learn how to read notes. A student that pays attention to their hand position and practices with a metronome. With these four things, a student is guaranteed to succeed.
