About Mackin

I graduated with a degree in Popular Music Performance from USC Thornton School of Music.

There, I studied songwriting, production, bass guitar, guitar, arranging, composition, percussion, keyboard, and more.

I go the extra mile to get my students excited about creating and unlocking their potential by creating highly personalized lesson plans and offering a flexible curriculum to fit someone's needs and goals.

I love passing down the knowledge of music as it was passed down to me and joining the sacred tradition of teaching.

I love the energy my students bring to the table, the fresh perspective, and the opportunity to deepen my own learning.

But most of all, I love helping someone work towards a goal to do something they didn't think they could do before.

Bringing creativity to people's lives is super rewarding.

I started in high school teaching local kids around the neighborhood

I volunteered at different youth camps in the summer and realized I have a passion for kids

But I also have many peers with great skills and we'll often trade lessons.

I'm fascinated at how the truly great musicians never lose their appetite for learning.

I graduated with a Bachelor's of Music from USC Thornton School of Music

About the lesson

I like to start with conversation - asking where someone is at in their musical journey and where they'd like to go.

I think it's fun to trade playlists to see what the other person is listening to as a jumping off point.

I like to perscribe a balance of technical and creative assignments that give my students the tools they need while also showing them the joy and inviting them to get in touch with their artistic side.

I've worked with children ages 8 and up, teens, and adults in their twenties, all from various backgrounds.

I am open to all types of students with all types of needs~

Take some time to think about what it is you want out of your experience. Don't be afraid to ask your teacher to change course if something isn't working for you.

Like anything, growth takes consistent effort over time. And while challenging, should include joy and fun!
