When working with beginner students I focus on getting the student comfortable holding the guitar. How to position the fretting hand, how to hold the pick.
We discuss which style he/she would like to become proficient at. What does the student like to listen to?
In the first lesson the student will learn a basic finger exercise and two chord shapes.
My lessons are usually split into two parts. Learning how to read music using a method book and learning chords to play and write songs.
