About Gordon

I started playing and studying the piano at age 5 and the guitar at 11. After joining the U.S. Navy I auditioned for and was accepted into the Navy School of Music as a guitarist, and graduated at the top of my class, receiving a meritorious promotion for doing so. Assigned to the Atlantic Fleet (now Fleet Forces) Band I served as the lead guitarist with the Atlantic Fleet rock band until mustering out of the Navy. I then attended the University of West Georgia as a piano performance major. I have been teaching guitar and piano privately since 1980.

What's REALLY important, though, is that I make it my primary mission to guide you to the accomplishment of YOUR musical goals. My many students would tell you that I'm very, very good at this.

Long ago someone heard me playing and asked if I could teach them how to do what I was doing.

I started studying the piano and music theory in 1958, and started playing the guitar in 1964. While in the Navy I auditioned for and was accepted into the Navy music program. I graduated from the Navy School of Music at the top of my class and was awarded a meritorious promotion for doing so. While in the Navy I served as the lead guitarist with the Atlantic Fleet rock band for four years. In that capacity I toured extensively throughout the eastern United States and western Europe. After mustering out of the Navy I studied as a piano performance major at the University of West Georgia. I have been teaching guitar and piano for more than 50 years.

About the lesson

A new student always wants to know that the teacher cares about HIS or HER goals, and that the teacher is equipped to identify the path and process that will help him or her reach them. Therefore, my sole mission with a new student is to find out what he or she wants to accomplish and then map out a plan to do just that.

I have worked with students of every age and skill level. I particularly enjoy working with adult beginners, but love working with anyone willing to put in the effort and time to do what has to be done to reach their musical goals.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student really and truly needs to settle in their own minds their commitment to the process (and working through the inevitable plateaus) of learning to play a musical instrument.
