About Lonnie

I've been teaching guitar professionally for the last eight years and voice for the last five. I have toured with major Country artists, fronted wedding bands, played solo acoustic and full band shows in Nashville bars, played lead in a variety of church environments from traditional gospel to modern CCM. My first album is available everywhere and my second is almost done! I want to help you reach your goals by making detailed lesson plans designed help you grow in the areas you'd like to improve. I love seeing growth in students; it's very fulfilling to help others in the ways my teachers and peers have helped me become the musician I am today!

I had parents and younger players come up to me after hearing me play at church, at festivals, in bars etc.. I've always loved helping people grow; it's very fulfilling to pass on what my teachers and peers have put in me to anyone who wants to better themselves.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from North Park University in Chicago as well as eight years as a full-time gigging musician.

About the lesson

The first thing I do is ask each student to define their expectations for themselves. Do you want to become a stronger songwriter? Do you want to be an electrifying frontman? Do you want to shred like Eddie Van Halen? I exist in all these spaces and can offer advice and things that have helped me grow, but the first thing is we have to know where we're going before we set out. After our first lesson I can write up a detailed plan telling you exactly how long to practice different techniques, scales, songs, motifs, whatever they may be each day and I guarantee you'll see improvement. It's much more effective in music to do a shorter practice daily than go several days without practicing and trying to cram it all into one session.

I've worked with children as young as eight all the way to grown men and women in their eighties, anyone who wants to learn is welcome.

Really think and ask yourself what about music makes you come alive and try and find someone who can help you grow in that specific area.

I saw one of my favorite guitar players, Mark Lettieri, at City Winery in Nashville shortly before everything started closing down in light of the pandemic. I really needed that that night, music is the best!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make a list of your favorite musicians and songs you'd like to work on. I try to incorporate theory and aural skills as soon as possible with all my students, but I try and teach it through songs they want to learn- it's kind of a two birds one stone approach.
