About Brandon

I am a guitar, flute, piano, and bass teacher in Virginia Beach with more than 10 years of experience. I'm very young and full of both energy and experience. I teach everything from a practical perspective and won't teach anything without an explanation as for how it's used. I'm primarily an ear player; however, I'm also a solid sight reader, so I can teach to both perspectives. I'm also experienced as a camp councilor and am excellent in working with kids.

I love watching my students progress! I see that both within myself and among my student body, love of an instrument increases as musical ability does. This is why results and enjoyment are my top priority!

I began teaching friends in high school and started marketing my services on the internet.

I have played music since the age of six and became a professional musician at the age of 16. I also studied music at Tidewater Community College and have studied privately with reputable musicians from around the country. I am a working musician who gigs in the community regularly and recently recorded my first album with a band.

About the lesson

The first lesson, assuming the student already owns or rents an instrument, is usually mainly focused on getting to know that instrument. I give an introduction to proper instrument maintenance and tuning, and how to properly use technique to make their instrument sound beautiful. Wind students walk away from lessons knowing a few notes, and guitar students often have a chord or two down.

Students from all walks of life. I have had success with students from age 4 to adulthood.

Look for teachers who can teach not only different musical styles, but different learning styles. Not everyone likes tab, and not everyone likes traditional sheet music. While both should be under a musician's belt eventually, ear learning is a powerful tool, and teaching through more literal demonstration can be a powerful tool in starting a life-long musical journey for many.
