About Ryan

My teaching approach:

Practical skills and understanding. This is a careful balance of technique and music theory. I sum up years of theory class into three easy steps and combine that with practical examples. I enjoy teaching all ages of students, children as well as older adults, and try to cater each lesson to the student’s goals using recording technology and various instruments to simulate real situations.

My influences are:

All the music I have ever heard has influenced me in some ways. I am a lover and student of all genres of music, from Pop to Heavy Metal to Reggae.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

Monday and Thursday are what I plan to start with. I can open up more time as the need arises. I teach full-time already.

Guitar Techniques:

Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Guidance In Equipment Selection

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

You will learn how to play the Pentatonic Scale, and 3 different chord exercises. Reading tablature and how to operate the guitar covered, too. Do not worry about reading music (notation) at this point. Focus on physically playing first.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Each lesson covers three topics: Technique (physical development through exercises), Music Theory (the grammar of music - your vocabulary is limited by your understanding of how everything fits together), and Practicality (learning songs, playing with other intsruments, song writing, and more).

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Someone who wants to genuinely play the guitar and sort through the mystery of music. One who plays and pursues learning beyond our meetings. One who has goals.
