Establishing goals and making a plan moving forward, allowing students to take ownership of lessons and invest themselves in their work.
Generally students between the age of 5-11 with varying special needs, though I have taught students up to age 65.
Look for someone who can teach you how to be a self-sufficient learner. You more than likely won't have a lesson every week for the rest of your life, but a good teacher will equip you with the skills needed to grow on your own.
Teaching my fourth graders enough on Ukulele to tackle songs they want to learn on their own.
