About Jim

My teaching approach:Investing in learning good basic technique will pay great dividends for the rest of your guitar playing career. The trick is to have fun, and work on music you like while you're learning it. I specialize in teaching children as young as 6 and my oldest student is over 80!

My influences are:

Andres Segovia, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Bunyan Webb, Joe Pass, David Cullen, the LA Guitar Quartet, Andrew York, William Kanengeiser,...

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio

Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas:

South Dayton

Guitar Techniques:

Fingerstyle, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

We determine goals, and work on how to achieve them. The student leaves with specific tasks to develop for the next lesson.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Usually three stages - 1) technique/warm-up 2) review music that has been practiced, or pieces from memory 3) time to demonstrate, and give the student time to play through new techniques/assigned music for the next week.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

One who is open to learning.
