About Georgia

I adapt my teaching method to the learning needs, abilities and interests of each student. My focus is to help each one enjoy music while they achieve their goals. I teach students from 5 years old into senior years. I have taught over 35 years, held several recitals and have produced 2 CDs of original music.

I teach piano students of all ages.

I teach beginning guitar students.

I teach voice students to intermediate level.

I enjoy interacting with each student and getting to know them. It is satisfying to me to see how each progresses and the happiness they experience as they advance in the knowledge of reading notes, learning rhythms, and performance.

I started over 30 years ago when I needed extra income and also saw the need for piano teachers in the area of northern Wisconsin where I lived at the time. I taught at my home and later at a small music store that I owned and managed.

I took private lessons through high school then continued to learn and advance on my own through the years. I have had a love of music since young childhood and have a natural feel for it. I have worked with children for over 35 years, having raised 7 children and taught a large number of students. I have sang and played keyboard for church worship teams for many years.

About the lesson

I observe their age, then ask what they already know concerning music education and skills. Young children I want to be able to count and have some reading. If the student already has some skill I will have them play something for me to determine what level to start or continue.

I have worked with children ages 5 though high school, also adults. I had 2 students who struggled with autism. I remember that one high school boy and I related well to each other. I taught an elementary school boy who had only a stump for his left hand but was determined to play piano. He did well. I also worked with a disabled boy for many years until his situation got too severe for motor skills.

I would seek a teacher who is friendly and patient. I would ask if they teach theory, rhythms, proper fingering and are willing to adapt their teaching to the need of the particular student.

Before moving from northern Wisconsin 6 years ago I had my last recital with several students. I played a few duets with the students, performed one of my originals songs at the end and enjoyed a pot luck meal with their families.

Details

Presently I charge $20 a half hour, the standard length of a lesson. I do 15 minutes for young beginners for $10. I will do 45 minutes for $30 and 60 minutes for $40.
