About Hunter

My service comes from the heart of a lifelong and working professional musician. With my focus on the guitar, I offer knowledge, tips, and structured practice routines that I have developed over my years of playing and also acquired from the best musicians in Los Angeles under whom I study. I also offer onlince lessons via Skype/FaceTime/other video chat apps for everyone's convenience :)

What I enjoy the most about my work is that I get to bring happiness to people through music. It has always been my dream to be a working session guitarist and sideman and I have been fortunate enough to perform and give happiness to thousands of people live and on TV. Just as much as performing, I love to teach because I want others who wish to, to be able to experience the same pleasures I do when making music.

I got started teaching guitar while in college. I had a lot of friends ask me to help them learn the guitar (many of whom were taking a class on how to play and they still came to me) and they recommended me to their friends, etc. and it snowballed from there.

While I personally do not have any formal music education, I have been playing obsessively since the age of 5 and now play professionally (live support and sessions) in Los Angeles. I have been studying under a few of the most highly respected professional guitarists/musicians for the last few years while in school and since graduating.

About the lesson

My typical process starts by evaluating the student level of knowledge of music and the instrument. Once I have determined their present abilities, I will fill in any existing gaps (if necessary) and then begin by asking the student what they wish to accomplish with the instrument and then provide structured exercises and lessons to help them achieve their goals.

I have worked with students ranging from kindergardeners to multiplatinum music producers & songwriters.

My advice would be to find a teacher who you can easily connect with and relate to. Whether that be on a personal level or even just through musical taste, or other interests you may have. I have found that I have gotten the most out of teaching and learning with teachers/students who I became friends with as much as I was the teacher/student. It makes the whole process less stressful and therefore more productive and enjoyable.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think this can be looked at from a couple different places. Students who are just starting out should think about what they're goals are. Asking themselves questions like: do I just want to learn to play along with the chords of my favorite songs? Do I want to be able to play more complex songs with lead parts? And how much time do I have/am willing to practice? These questions are important because they can give the teacher a good idea as to the type of lesson roadmap to devise for their students.

Student who already have some proficiency should still be thinking of their goals, but should also ask themselves questions like: what do I think I need to work on in order to reach my goals? And what can a teacher help me with the most? These questions are important for the student so that they can identify gaps in their playing and then approach them with a teacher to determine the best way to continue towards reaching their musical goals.

My standard pricing system is $70 for a one hour in person lesson and $40 for a half hour in person lesson.

I also offer lessons over Skype/FaceTime for $50 per hour and $35 for a half hour.
