Lloyd is a friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating teacher. While I started out with him with the intention of brushing up my guitar playing, I switched to bass lessons after about six months. Within a few more months, I felt as though I had grown enough as a musician to be comfortable performing to live audiences with bands.

Lloyd takes a holistic approach when teaching students while also tailoring the material to the individual goals of each. When I learned a new scale, we spent as much time on theory as we did on shapes and intervals. He treats the "why" of a concept or technique the same as the "how". In my case, at least, I felt as though I knew more about music and could speak about it credibly with other musicians as a result. When I switched to bass, he was encouraging and as knowledgeable about bass playing techniques as he was about guitar solos and diminished chords.

It also bears mentioning that Lloyd is understanding of the fact that music lessons are a hobby or luxury and that other demands on one's time sometime take priority over a scheduled meeting. I have a dynamic work schedule and he has always been extremely accommodating in either rescheduling lessons or doing them remotely.

Finally, lessons with Lloyd are priced extremely reasonably for Los Angeles. This was the most important factor to me when I was looking for a teacher and was ready to treat Lloyd with skepticism ("is there a good reason he's so affordable?") but he has provided instruction as good or better than any other teacher I have had.

I highly recommend Lloyd! I just recently started playing the acoustic guitar about a month ago and I've made incredible strides in my playing ability. He puts a great lesson plan together that's tailored to how you play. For instance, I had issues with hand placement and playing notes clearly so he gave me two new exercises that have since corrected my mistakes. He's also very invested in developing personal and close relationships with his students so that he can help them in the best way possible. He has sent me numerous helpful videos and albums to listen to. He even met with me at local guitar stores to help me find the right guitar. Thanks to Lloyd I'm hooked on playing and I never want to put my guitar down now. I wish I could have lessons with him everyday!

Lloyd is an extremely patient and knowledgeable teacher. After 4 classes I already see my skills improving immensly. Lloyd is been a great guitar instructor, my daughter enjoys her classes, and Lloyd makes it so easy and fun for her. He is very patience, knowledgeable and great with kids.

I've been working with Lloyd for a little over a month now and it's been great! I started lessons because I didn't feel like I was making much progress on my own (through online lessons and tabs) and wanted someone to interact with. The lessons have been great! Lloyd is super patient and easy to follow. He adjusts each lesson to your needs, mood and what you want to learn. I've made huge improvements!!

I initially had group lessons from Mr. Moss via group study at UCLA. I had a good ear, but I did not have the familiarity with playing guitar. I was truly amazed at Lloyd's ability to teach and explain it in away that ALL students were able to play a short song at the end of the first class! It was a tremendous confidence booster for us all. To be an effective teacher you must be an effective communicator and tailor your instruction to the needs of your students. That is Lloyd Moss! Moreover, he was able to use different approaches and styles of music to help me and my fellow students. After the program I continued with private study in both guitar and bass, and consider him to be a truly gifted teacher and artist developer.

Having taken 10 years away from playing any instruments, Lloyd has gotten me right back on track and even going back to some theory! I just started guitar lessons with Lloyd a few weeks ago and I am having a blast! I am a classically trained violinist and learned a bit of guitar in college from a friend, but I have never buckled down to really learn it. Lloyd is a caring and knowledgeable teacher. I love that he wants to get to know me and my music tastes. Then, he caters what we are studying to me, so I am interested in everything I have to practice. I feel like I am already making progress and Lloyd makes it fun and easy. He also teaches multiple instruments, so if I want to play ukulele one week, he is super flexible. I'm looking forward to being a guitar master (with plenty of outside practice time) under Lloyd's excellent instruction.

I am a teacher myself -- of 35 years. I began piano lessons with some trepidation due to some negative experiences when I was young. From the moment we started, Lloyd created a relaxing and encouraging atmosphere that put me at ease. He listened to my goals and assured me that they are achievable. Lloyd assigned me songs that were appropriate -- meaning challenging, but not too challenging. I had a question and Lloyd called me back to answer it promptly. I've had a handful of lessons and I plan to continue to work with Lloyd. Additionally he is warm and friendly -- and his dog is an absolute gem.

As a parent, I have my reasons for recommending Lloyd as a teacher, but I think my seven-year-old daughter offers the most compelling evidence of Lloyd's effectiveness. She has no problems voicing her complaints about her participation in various after-school activities, but after ten months of ukulele lessons with Lloyd, she has never once begged to take a break or skip a lesson. In fact, even on those days when she's in a foul mood before her lesson, she always emerges from the lesson happy and wanting more.

I personally chose Lloyd as my daughter's music teacher because I want her to have a more positive introduction to music than I had as a child. Piano was chosen as the instrument I had to study, and I had even less say in the music I learned to play. Needless to say, this approach squashed my desire to learn, so with my daughter I have tried to let her make decisions about her own training. After some early childhood music and movement classes at Bloom School of Music, my daughter determined she wanted to play the ukulele, and Lloyd has sprouted the seed of her initial curiosity into a musical sapling with strong roots. Lloyd exposes her to a variety of songs, and whenever she expresses interest in a different song--which has thus far ranged from "Ballroom Blitz" to the theme from Star Wars--he always works the song into her lessons. Lloyd recognizes that my daughter has limited attention, and rather than have her master one song before moving on to the next, he understands that she is more likely to practice and learn the chords and techniques when she engages with the music. Although I don't expect my daughter to become a professional musician, I sense that under Lloyd's tutelage she will acquire a better grounding in musical performance and theory than I did from my eight years of piano lessons. More importantly, I suspect that Lloyd will foster in her a life-long interest in playing music for personal pleasure as evidenced by the fact that she already wants to study the bass in addition to the ukulele.

Lloyd's adaptability to working family schedules matches his pedagogic flexibility. When trying to find a ukulele teacher for my daughter, I first considered all the various music schools around Los Angeles. Although my daughter had a good experience at Bloom, we would have had to accommodate our schedule to fit the time ukulele is taught at Bloom or any of the other schools around town. Moreover, the music schools only offer makeup lessons, not refunds, for lessons that must be cancelled from time to time. In theory this is fine, but when it is already difficult to schedule a convenient time for the regular lesson, it becomes next to impossible to schedule a makeup lesson. With proper notice, Lloyd will not charge for cancelled lessons, and this is a godsend to those with limited budgets. Of course, Lloyd also makes it easy to schedule a convenient time for a makeup session when we are able to do so. Now that my daughter wants to study a second instrument, I especially appreciate Lloyd's versatility and flexibility. Not only can he teach my daughter both the bass and the ukulele, but he has proposed different scenarios for studying the two instruments simultaneously in a way that will accommodate my daughter's needs and skills as well as our budget.

Despite all the stresses associated with transporting children to and paying for activities like music lessons, the joy I experience hearing my daughter's pleasure when she jams with Lloyd at the end of every lesson makes it all worthwhile.

Lloyd is an exceptionally flexible teacher. I have been learning piano with him for a couple months and he has made it extremely enjoyable. In terms of content of our lesson, we do everything from sheet music to improv. I appreciate his extreme flexibility when it comes to the lesson and he is able to adjust the lesson according to your mood during. I would highly recommend Lloyd for anyone who is trying to pick up piano as a hobby or learning!

Lloyd has been a wonderful teacher for me. I'm 59, and decided this was the year I would learn to play the guitar, which I've long wanted to do but never tried. The last time I played a musical instrument was the piano in elementary school. I.e. I'm almost the definition of a late-in-the-game beginner. Lloyd is smart, kind, and loves music (and it shows). Most of all, Lloyd is patient but also always on the lookout for any sign of progress; he gets excited when he realizes the person he's teaching is self-motivated. I have a full-time job, of course, but I also have managed to find 5-10 minutes/day, often a couple of times per day like the beginning and end of each day, for small amounts of consistent practice; and Lloyd has noticed what I'm getting (and what I'm not yet getting) and stepped up his expectations and homework for me at the perfect pace. The result is that I can see, hear, and feel progress every week. Learning guitar from Lloyd has been pure fun. I feel like I got very lucky finding him.

Lloyd is an excellent Bass instructor. He is very patient and is willing to go into as much, or as little, detail as you want. He will work with you to develop good playing techniques and to learn the songs you are interested in as quickly as possible. I highly recommend him if you are interested in learning any instrument that he teaches.

Piano is hard, but Lloyd makes learning to play fun. I am an adult beginner and having fun is the primary reason I'm doing it so, Lloyds a perfect fit for me. He's also fun to chat with which immediately put me at ease. So now, he's my new buddy that I get to hang with once a week, play piano and chat about movies, current events and music. Also, if he really likes you he may offer to make you a homemade raspberry lemonade. I suggest you let him, because it is delicious.
