I have always volunteered as a tutor for elementary and middle-school aged students, from high school and throughout college. After college, I believed I would attend law school; however, plans changed and I worked as a paraprofessional at an elementary school for two years. During this time, I served as a reading specialist for K-5 students, and I also tutored K-12 students in math, reading, Algebra I, and Geometry. It was during this time that I became certified as a high school teacher, and I am currently in my second-year of teaching social studies.

I obtained my B.A. at Spelman College in 2015. I majored in U.S. and African American History. I also took political science and economic courses, so I am well-versed in social studies. In addition, I am certified as a high school teacher in South Carolina.

I am currently pursuing of Master of Arts in Curriculum & Instruction, which gives me training in developing curriculum plans and lesson plans.

The first meeting/lesson with students is crucial, as I can learn more about my student. It is during this time that I will introduce myself and find out what my student's (and their parents if K-12 aged) goals are. I explain to students how sessions will work, as tutoring sessions are different from school, and more like a conversation. Students will have ample opportunity to ask questions whenever they need and have more control over what they are being taught.

Finally, during the first lesson, I will assess their current level of study.

During my time as an elementary school paraprofessional, I worked with students that had learning disabilities, mainly those who needed reading and math intervention.

I have tutored students ranging from K-12 in all subjects, mainly ELA and math (including Algebra I & II and Geometry).

I currently teach general education and honors level classes as a high school social studies teacher. I teach a range of students from ESL students, to gifted students, to students that have learning disabilities.
