About Kaila
Hello! I am an 18-year-old and the oldest of five siblings ranging from ages 4-15. My experience with children started at a young age, mainly because I have so many younger siblings. I began babysitting at around 13 years old. I worked with the Community Service Foundation in Lanham, MD, where I was a summer employee working with children ages 5-13. I currently work at St. Matthews Early Education Center in Bowie, MD as a teacher assistant. During high school and at my current job, I was gifted the opportunity to work with children with disabilities by helping them read and write. I am a freshman at Bowie State University in Bowie, MD, and major in Elementary Education. I am looking for an additional income and want to earn this by doing something that I already love to do, working with children! I believe that my communication skills, patience, determination, and ability to work with all children will help me continue to impact children’s lives and be a great tutor or babysitter.
My current certifications are:
Maryland State Department of Education Teacher Aide Orientation

When working with new students, I like first introducing myself to make the child feel more comfortable and then get a feel for the student, what they enjoy doing in their free time, favorite foods, activities, and more. I then like to identify and discuss areas where the student feels they need improvement and are strong. I always like to include positivity because I believe that we should not focus on only what we need to work on but also identify are strong areas to help build confidence. I would then like to create a plan that works for the child, and I meaning all children are different and learn different I never want to enforce the same skills and techniques that work for one student on another because that may not work for that student. After coming up with a reasonable plan, I will then explain my expectations and how sessions will run.
