About Julie

I am an upper level dressage rider and enjoy teaching youth to obtain their riding goals. I teach students from their first ride to first horse show. I also have a back ground in Pony Club and Natural Horsemanship. I have my Bronze USDF Dressage metal. I am a happy enthusiastic teacher and enjoys helping students gain better understanding and harmony with their horse. Your welcome to trailer in or get a lesson on my lesson horse. I started teaching back when I was a Pony Club student. The goal is to help others achieve there goals and keep everyone safe.

I was basically was raised with horses. I began formal lessons at the age of 13 and soon after joined Pony Club. My favorite sport is dressage but at that time the horse I had loved to jump so I did lots of rallies and jumping as a Pony Clubber. I acquired a horse that was fresh off the track and this horse caused me to gleen from a Natural Horsemanship teacher. I learned lots of patients taking 30 minutes to get a bridal on was very humbling and a huge learning curve to my Horsemanship especially as a 16 year old. Later I studied with teachers in biomechanics of riding and classical dressage. Currently I have trained three of my horses to Prix St George Level. I still glean from others by attending clinic from other professionals. I also enjoy showing because I feel it's truly a great way to get feed back on my own training and besides my horses enjoy showing off.

About the lesson

For a student who has never been on a horse before I teach how to be safe and confident around horses by first leading and grooming. I then teach free lounging so the student can learn body language of the horse and see if the horse is ready to be ridden. Then we progress to riding in the saddle showing you how to hold the reins how to relax with good posture in the saddle. Learn how to move the horse with light aiding system using the leg, body weight and good body biomechanics and breathing. As the student progresses they learn to walk, trot, canter independently in the saddle. Trotting over poles is used to help students get a better lower leg position and more independent seat. I teach classical dressage lounging so students can warm there horses up at horse shows. I try to encourage students to watch or attend a horse show once a year if possible. The basics of development of the horses training is also very important to develop trust, respect, relaxation, rhythm, better balance, steady contact and correct gaits worthy of the level of training. The goal is to develop students to be independent horse riders and owner.

I teach students from age 7 on up. I have taught recreational trail riders to students prepping for dressage shows. I have helped the fearful nervous rider overcome to be relaxed and confident. I have helped students with understanding and developing the horses quality of gaits, straightness, suppleness, leg yields, half passing, canter pirouettes, and simple changes of canter leads.

I encourage prospective students to do a meet and greet time so you can get your questions answered and observe how the trainer works with horses and people.
