About Beckett-Torgersen,
Lisa has been riding and competing since 1962. She started as a junior rider in southern California on the “A” and “B” Hunter circuit. Since moving to Palo Cedro in 1977 she has added Dressage and Combined Training to her competition accomplishments. She also began developing Two Bar Training Center, a facility for training riders and horses in Dressage, Eventing, Hunters and Hunt Seat Equitation. She has qualified and ridden in the California Dressage Society Annual Championship show and the American Horse Shows Association Western Regional Finals eight times. She has been active on a local, state and national level in several equestrian organizations, serving as Director and President of the California Dressage Society, President of the Northern Counties Hunter Jumper Association for three years, and Region 7 Representative of the United States Dressage Federation Competitor’s Council. From 1989 to 2008 Lisa taught two classes for Shasta College: Introduction to Dressage and Beginning Jumping.
In 1998 Lisa graduated the courses and passed the final exam for the United States Dressage Federation “L” Judges program. She has been judging hunter/jumper and dressage shows since the mid 1980’s. In 2005 she judged the Klamath County Fair horse show English divisions. She has spent time on large cattle ranches in Nevada, riding and working with the cowboys gathering and moving cows, vaccinating, and branding. Lisa has also been involved in the western wear and tack retail industry, managing The Arena western wear and tack store for 13 years.
Lisa now spends most of her time teaching approximately 20 regular students, most of which take weekly or semi-weekly lessons. Until recently she competed at the international level in dressage on her own horse. Besides teaching she also accompanies and coaches her students at competitions.
Presently Lisa teaches and manages Two Bar Training Center in Palo Cedro. Her students compete in Dressage shows, Hunter Jumper shows and Horse Trials locally and across Northern California. Lisa is known for her patient yet motivating and knowledgeable instruction with students of all ages. Her methods and philosophy have been proven consistently through her student’s competitive achievements as well as their riding enjoyment.
