About Jenifer
Welcome! My teaching focuses on the beginning level of riding. The basics on horse care and equipment. I have over 20 years experience in riding, care and nutritional needs of the equine. My students will learn how to ride in a safe and controlled environment. As well as learning how to work with your horse and the proper use of tack. I believe that I can engage any curious or dedicated student with a mix of perspectives and experience.
Funny, my long-time teacher saw me helping someone with their riding skills and said "you should give lessons now! I love how patient you are, and your skills are past my ability now." I laughed, and then a neighbor of mine asked if I could help them and so it began!
I have a bachelor's degree in business finance and worked in that profession for 20 years. I had horses as a kid and learned the hard way of riding by getting on and going! After my daughter went off to college, I was lucky enough to be able to get back into horses and out of the rat race! I then proceeded to take lessons for 10 years and still do at times. I have had the pleasure of learning about horses, training horses and learning to ride horses from many great trainers! If there are opportunities to take lessons with other great trainers I will!

New horse riders will first learn how to clean, brush and maintain your horse. We will then learn the proper way and usage of tacking your horse. We will also learn how to do groundwork with your horse and learn the proper way to ride your horse.
I have worked with all ages. I started with my neighbor girl because she wanted to try out for rodeo queen. That required working on pattern riding and care of her horse. I have helped older folks that have had accidents, and are scared to ride again, rebuild their confidence in the saddle. I have also taught the basics of sorting cows and doing ranch work. As well as taking people on trail rides.
If you are a beginner to horses definitely find a teacher that teaches you the basics from the start. Not just get on and ride. If you are more experienced and have learned the beginning stuff and think that there is a specific discipline that you would like to learn, find a teacher in that discipline. Check how long they have been teaching, ask for references, and ask them if you can come watch them teach. It's a good way to see if they will be a good fit for you.
I really like to do sorting and trail riding. Sorting is riding into a pen and sorting out a cow and moving it to another pen. Trail riding is to ride in the mountains and view the scenery and animals. It is very relaxing!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As a beginner, you should find a teacher and use their horse. That way you can decide if this is something that you like and would want to continue. Don't run out and buy a horse! They are very expensive, require a lot of care and what if you decide it's not your thing! Ask about what it requires to take care of a horse, what you would need to keep your horse in and the standard cost of a horse. What kind of things can you do with horses. There is cow working such as roping, cutting, sorting, penning. Or there is dressage, mounted shooting, barrel racing and soooo many more things to do!

Perfect! Watt Canyon Ranch has an amazing instructor who has helped me with my horse riding skills and knowledge. This ranch is located by some trails which are amazing I'm the summer and fall!
Highly Recommend 10/10!Perfect! She was patient and kind with her explanations on how saddles work and all the parts. She keeps calm around horses and when teaching rein and hand cues for making a horse move she does a great job on explaining the purpose of every cue and movement. 10/10

Details
Typically, I charge $60.00 an hour for lessons. Sometimes I will provide lesson blocks for a discounted price. Example: if you booked 4 hours and scheduled the time and day, I would charge $200.00 paid up front, that is a $40.00 discount.
