About Lemuel

I love writing JavaScript. As a whole, I've been working with JavaScript since the mid-90s. It became my daily driver in 2013 just before ES6 features became a thing! I work with the language on both the front and back-end with the use of libraries like React, express - and the Node JS runtime. More recently, I've added Typescript to my arsenal. I've worked as a solo freelancer, a freelancer in a team setting, and even a staff programmer doing peer reviews.

My other love is teaching! I love to pass on the knowledge I've accumulated. I've taken dozens of JavaScript juniors under my wing for the past few years, tutoring in the language to help them advance their programming knowledge/income/careers.

I started teaching through work. As a Senior developer, I'm responsible for doing code reviews and peer programming with the fresh faces in the department. I became addicted to the 'ah-hah' moments people have when you expand their knowledge. I learned that I had a knack for conveying complex concepts in plain English.

I've been writing JavaScript for years. Since the mid90's in fact. I have been teaching JavaScript for several years now. I've worked in the Web Development field since the mid0's and would love to share my accumulated knowledge with you!

About the lesson

First I like to talk about where you are with the language. I want to see where your strengths and weaknesses are. Typically most people I work with are in boot camps and are looking for help with assignments. With this information I can start to tailor lessons to the things you are learning currently, to help cement concepts!

Once I have a good feel for what you need, then it's time to get to work! We'll do exercises or build a project or however else you learn best. I'm extremely flexible!

Adult professionals mostly. I've worked with a lot of Bootcamp students, college students - anyone struggling with Javascript and mostly React (these days) Who needs a hand either understanding the library or working through their sticky problems.

Ask questions! Anyone can say they know how to program - but dig deeper. A real developer won't shy away from surface programming knowledge questions. Ask them about their experience! And most of all - just talk! I find it easy to distinguish someone who fits the arrogant, or friendly coder dispositions rather quickly. :)

Deciding to join Tutoring sites. This has been the most fulfilling work I've ever had the pleasure to experience.

I charge by the hour. I find that having a flexible schedule and the ability to add more or less time on the fly is best for the fluidity of learning. Sometimes a lot happens in ten minutes - other times it takes an hour or more to /really/ nail down that concept. What matters? You'll understand by the time we're through.
