About Miriam

I am a screenwriter and novelist with extensive knowledge and training in language arts and writing. I graduated summa cum laude from USC's filmmaking and screenwriting program. I also completed their rigorous honors writing program which taught me how to compose complex, effective, and succinct essays. I have tutored English, Writing, and Reading for two years. My comprehensive approach differs depending on the student. I always start with an initial conversation to understand what the student would like to focus on and where they are struggling. In essay writing, I focus on the content first-- what does the student find interesting in the material? What is their perspective on it? What might they want to say or explore about it? From there, we create a thesis statement that's specific and clear. What I've learned over time is that everyone knows how to write, they just sometimes need the guidance and structure of a tutor to help them talk through their ideas and discover their voice!
